|FJATA is part of the ASTM subcommittees that created voluntary standards for children’s & adult jewelry. The process included representatives from CPSC, testing labs, industry, consumer organizations, Health Canada, and scientists. Each standard defines safety specifications for fashion jewelry, both for cadmium and lead content as well as all other known potential hazards, such as nickel content, breakaway testing and other heavy metals. Both standards were updated in 2014.|
